GVSU Goei Center: Live Painting

Join the Vander Woude family to help raise funds for baby Evan’s medical expenses. On Tuesday, March 4 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., I will be painting live at the Goei Center; my live work will be part of the auction to help the Vander Woude family.

Evan’s story as told by a parent:

Hi, my name is Evan. I was born way too early. At birth, I weighed 1lb. 5 oz. They called me a micro preemie. I was in the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital from my birth on January 6 until November 11.

My medical care is very costly. We would love it if you would join us at our fun event to raise money to help with my medical expenses.

Paper Prayers on Healing Wings

Paper cranes photographed by Rachel Joy

Recently, I was encouraged by this tweet from Rachel, an ArtPrize visitor. Rachel posted the following vignette and amazing photo describing her experience at my Wing and a Prayer installation. Here’s a portion of what she wrote:

One of this year’s exhibits was a breathtaking piece called Wing and a Prayer, based on a beautiful story of prayers for a child and paper cranes. Visitors were invited to write their own prayers for a child in their life on pieces of paper—whether they were prayers for a physical need, an emotional need, or something completely different—and hang them on the wall.

Standing in front of the hundreds of children’s names, each representing a young struggling life, brought tears to my eyes. What brings tears to my eyes now is that my humble prayer, one name written on a slip of paper, has since been answered.
